Saturday, September 27, 2014
Presented by the HAVERSTRAW PBA in partnership with NEW YORK TRIATHLON.
The Bricktown Challenge is the inaugural fundraising event for the Town of Haverstraw PBA. The Challenge is a sprint distance triathlob which includes a 1/4 mile out and back swim from the boat launch at the County Park followed by a 13 mile bike ride with scenic views that take competitors through parts of the Village of West Haverstraw, Garnerville, Thiells and Stony Point. After returning from the bike ride the competitor will complete the event with a 3 mile run along the sea wall of Haverstraw and Stony Point with views of the majestic Hudson River.
Competitors will have the duathlon option that replaces the 1/4 mile swim with a 1 mile run. The bike ride of 13 miles and the final run of 3 miles is the same course as the triathlon.
The event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon with partial proceeds from the event going to support local charities.
The name "Bricktown Challenge" was chosen to pay homage to the history of Haverstraw and the brickmaking industry that started in 1771. The added "challenge" to the tri/duathlon is that there will be a special prize given to those competitors who choose to do the 3 mile run carrying a brick (optional - supplied upon request).
Awards will be given to the top male and female finishers in each age group and to the top three male/female first responders.
This event will be the first of its kind in the Haverstraw - Stony Point area and will bring competitors from throughout the tri-state area to partake in the fastest growing endurance sport in the country.
.ABSOLUTELY NO PARTS OF ENTRY FEES WILL BE REFUNDED, TRANSFERRED OR CREDITED.
The event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon. Annual membership ($45) or one day membership ($12) will be required to participate in the event. For information on USA Triathlon membership go to www.USATriathlon.org
